If I am pregnant when I get vaccinated, will my baby be protected too?
- Yes. Babies can get disease immunity (protection) from their mothers during pregnancy and through breastfeeding. When your body creates protective antibodies, you pass on some of those antibodies to your baby through the umbilical cord and when the baby is born antibodies can be passed through breastfeeding. However, the vaccine itself does not travel to the baby. [CDC, accessed 9/23/21]
